KENOSHA, Wis. - Playing its second match of the weekend, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis closed out its trip to Wisconsin with a 9-0 setback at the hands of Carthage College Saturday, April 20. IWU falls to 9-8 and 2-4 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action while Carthage moves to 20-4 and 4-1 in the CCIW.
In doubles action, the No. 2 doubles pair of sophomore
Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter Academy) and junior
Zeke Cross (Springfield, Ill.-Springfield) fell 8-2 while freshman
Thad Dillow (Effingham, Ill.-Effingham) and sophomore
Griffin Hammond (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) had a similar 8-2 showing in their paired match.
Sophomore Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) fell in his No. 1 singles match in set scores of 6-1 and 6-4. Vigneri nearly took his match at No. 2 singles into a tiebreaker but ultimately fell to his Firebird opponent with set scores of 7-5 and 7-6.
The Titans close out the regular season at home next Saturday, April 27. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
