BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team welcomes North Central College Friday, April 12, before opening its slate of three straight road matches at Augustana College Saturday, April 13. Friday's match will start at 4:30 p.m. at Evergreen Racquet Club, while Saturday's contest at Augie's brand-new Lincoln Park is set for a 4 p.m. start.
The Titans look to improve their 9-4 overall record, and 2-0 start to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action. In its most recent match, the Green and White defeated Millikin University, 6-3, Saturday, April 6. Sophomore
Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) picked up the win at No. 1 singles, 7-5, 6-2, and at No. 1 doubles alongside senior
Ryan McCoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Rolling Meadows), winning 8-7(4). At No. 2 doubles, sophomore
Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter Academy) and junior
Zeke Cross (Springfield, Ill.-Springfield) claimed an 8-4 victory.
IWU and North Central will meet on the tennis courts for the 39th time, with the Titans boasting a 24-14 advantage. Illinois Wesleyan fell in the most recent meeting, 9-0, March 26, 2023. NCC most recently defeated Augie 7-2 Sunday, April 7, to improve to 16-3 overall, and 4-0 in league play. The Cardinals will travel to Millikin Friday morning before taking on the Titans. North Central was ranked 24th nationally in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's most recent poll.
Saturday's contest will be the 37th meeting between the Titans and Vikings. Augustana owns a 27-9 advantage in the all-time series and won the most recent contest, 9-0, March 24, 2023. The match will see head coach
Sam Totten take on his alma mater. Totten was a standout player for the Vikings, playing there from August 2014 until his graduation in May 2018. In his four years, Totten was named to the All-CCIW team all four years, making the first team three times, and was named the CCIW Man of the Year in his final season in 2018. Augie beat Millikin, 8-1, Wednesday, April 10, to up its record to 13-6 (2-2 CCIW) before Saturday's match.
