BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team swept Elmhurst University in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action Saturday, March 30. With the win, IWU climbed to 8-4 overall, 1-0 in the CCIW.
The Titans took No. 1 and 2 doubles, while the Bluejays forfeited at No. 3 to give IWU an early edge. Sophomore Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) and senior Ryan McCoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Rolling Meadows) notched an 8-1 win at No. 1, while Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter Academy) and Zeke Cross (Springfield, Ill.-Springfield) won 8-0 at No. 2.
Illinois Wesleyan continued rolling in singles, as Turnbull, Vigneri, McCoy, Thad Dillow (Effingham, Ill.-Effingham), and Griffin Hammond (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) claimed victories.
Turnbull toppled his counterpart 6-0, 6-0. Vigneri came out on top in a hard fought match at No. 2 with set scores of 7-5 and 6-0.
McCoy and Dillow grabbed 6-1, 6-1 wins at No. 3 and 4 singles, respectively. Hammond nabbed a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 5 slot.
Senior Jordan Sibley-Diggs (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) wrapped up the scoring with a win via forfeit at No. 6.
IWU travels to Millikin University Thursday, April 4. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
