Baseball Take on Three Game Home Series against Carroll

First home series of the season

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Coming off of a 1-2 weekend and a midweek conference maatchup, the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team will host Carroll University, Friday, March 29 & 30, for its next College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin series. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Horenberger Field. Saturday's double header between the Pios and the Titans will kick off the first game at 11 a.m. with the second to follow at 2 p.m. Entering the weekend clash, the Titans own a record of 10-7 (0-1 CCIW), while the Pios have generated a 5-10 (0-0 CCIW) record.

Dating back to the 2017 campaign, the Titans and Pios have met on the diamond 20 times, with IWU owning the 13-7 series advantage. Illinois Wesleyan raced out the 8-0 series lead by winning eight straight from April 8, 2017-April 6, 2019. Their last encounter was in the CCIW tournament last year, where the Titans overpowered the Pios 11-3. 

The Titans are coming off of a three-game series with Wabash College where IWU garnered a 1-2 record. The Green and White sprung for 13 runs against Wabash but the Titan pitching staff ultimately surrendered 21 runs over three games.

Illinois Wesleyan's last game was against CCIW opponent Millikin University, Wednesday, March 27 where the cold and windy conditions saw the Big Blue defeat IWU 5-3.

On the contrary, Carroll, who played Rockford University this past week, is coming off of a 9-2 win against Rockford University. Carroll surrendered six hits and only two runs. 

Junior Justin Gadomski (Schaumburg, Ill.-Schaumburg) has a batting average of .352 as he, tops the team in at-bats (71) and hits (25). In the league rankings, the Schaumburg, Ill. native is tied for the fifth-most hits (35) and currently sits second in doubles (8).

Senior Jacob Cyrus (Glen Ellyn, Ill.- Glenbrook South) has manufactured a team high slugging percentage (.621) which is fourth in conference. 

On the mound, junior Dalen Banks (Springfield, Ill.-Springfield) leads the conference with his 1.65 ERA. Additionally, sophomore Cole Shamhart (Oak Park, Ill-Oak Park River Forest), is tied for most wins, along with taking sixth in the opposing batting average at .227.
