Baseball Shifts Game to Wednesday Due to Weather

Conference play is under way

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team starts College Conference of Illinois and Winsconsin play at home for a single game showdown against Millikin University Wednesday, March 26 with the first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. The game was previously set for Tuesday March 26 but has been moved back a day to Wednesday due to weather. Coming into play this week, the Green and White own an overall record of 10-6 while the Big Blue sit at 9-9.

The Titans most recently played yesterday, March 24, against Wabash College. The Little Giants bested the Titans 8-5 and took away the win in the three game series going 2-1. 

Millikin, who battled Hope in a three game series, went 2-1, with scores of 11-8 W, 5-1 L, and 5-4 W, respectively. 

Tuesday's meeting will mark the 118th all-time game between these two rivals that dates back to the 1989 season. The Green and White currently enjoys a 80-38 all-time series advantage. The Titans took the first win of the all-time series in 1989, winning 9-2 over the Big Blue. IWU has won the last two games against Millikin, with the most recent meeting in the CCIW tournament where IWU took the win 5-4. 

The longest win streak against MU is 28 games from April 13, 2006 to April 11, 2015. IWU is 39-19 at Jack Horenberger Field against the Big Blue and are hoping to get its 40th win this Wednesday. 

Senior Jacob Cyrus (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbrook South) is enjoying a start to a solid senior season with a .436 batting average. The Glen Ellyn, Ill. native tops the team as he has accumulated 55 at bats, 11 runs, and 24 hits. Cyrus is third in the conference in hitting behind Zander Tubbs from Carthage (.469), and Alex Devito from North Park (.447), respectively. IWU has also taken the fourth and fifth spot with juniors Tristan Figus (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Buffalo Grove) and Tyler Woltman (Wheaton, Ill.-Wheaton North) in conference hitting. 

As of late, IWU sits first overall in the CCIW in hitting (.347) and pitching (3.54 ERA) and the Titans take fourth in fielding with a .967 fielding percentage. 

On the bump, sophomore Cole Shamhart (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) claimed his second CCIW pitcher of the week this past week.
