Milgazo Rakes in CCIW Hitter of the Week Award

First weekly honor of her career

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Days removed from a doubleheader that saw Illinois Wesleyan University freshman outfielder Hailey Milgazo (Poway, Calif.-Poway) lead the Titans to a sweep over Emory University, the speedy freshman was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Hitter of the Week Monday, March 18.

It is the first weekly award of her career as well as the first time a Titan has been recognized as the league's weekly hitter award this season. Additionally, she joins sophomore pitcher Gianna Certa as IWU's second weekly conference honoree this season. Certa was named the CCIW Pitcher of the Week, March 11.

Milgazo was unstoppable at Emory, where she finished the road doubleheader 8-for-9. Boasting a hefty .889 batting average, the Poway, Calif. native reached base in each of her nine at bats. Milgazo scored a team-high six runs and swiped one base.

She kicked off the twin bill with a 4-for-4 effort, before posting a 4-for-5 showing in game two. Milgazo scored three runs in each of IWU's games against Emory and has reached base safely in each of the nine games she has played in this season.

Illinois Wesleyan opens up its home schedule against Monmouth College this Thursday, March 21. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Inspiration Field.
