Titans push record to 6-3

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - After a huge win less than 24 hours ago that saw some of the highest offensive totals the program has seen, the Illinois Wesleyan University baseball team showed no signs of slowing down in a 12-0 blowout of St. Joseph's College (Maine) Monday, March 11. The Titans boosted their record to 6-3 on the season, while the Monks dipped to 1-5 on year.

After a scoreless first, the Titans erupted for eight runs on six hits in the second. The outburst began with junior Cade Tomhave's (Pittsfield, Ill.-Pittsfield) one-out single. Jack Flagg (River Forest, Ill.-Oak Park River Forest) followed with a triple to bring in the game's first run, before a balk and pair of RBI singles ran the score to 4-0 in favor of the Green and White. A steal of home and a hit by pitch brought Flagg back to the dish, where he poked a two-run single to left center as IWU grabbed an 8-0 lead into the third.

Will Davidsmeier (Virginia, Ill.-Beardstown) worked around a pair of singles in the third, using a strike out and double play to strand two.

IWU responded with another run-scoring inning as senior Louis Perona (Chicago, Ill.-Lane Tech), junior Tyler Woltman (Wheaton, Ill.-Wheaton North), and junior Justin Gadomski (Schaumburg, Ill.-Schaumburg) recorded back-to-back-to-back singles to bring up the hot-hitting Tristan Figus (Arlington Height, Ill.-Buffalo Grove). The junior continued his torrid start to the season with a single to right-center, driving in a run. The Titans scored once more on a ground out to extend their lead to 10-0 into the fourth.

The Green and White tacked on two more runs in the fourth, using three hits and an error to do so.

Leading 12-0 into the fifth, Davidsmeier kept things rolling with a 1-2-3 inning. Juniors Brady Hartman (Milan, Ill.-Sherrard) and Lukas Wenz (Naperville, Ill.-Neuqua Valley) took it from there, closing out the 12-0 seven-inning victory.

Flagg paced an offensive that cranked out 14 hits on the day as he finished 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a run scored. Perona and Woltman each went 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk, while Woltman scored twice.

Gadomski and Figus also tallied multi-hit games. Gadomski finished 2-for-4, while Figus went 2-for-3 with two driven in.

Davidsmeier threw five innings, allowing four hits and striking out five to earn his first win of the season.

The Green and White compete in game four of its spring break road trip tomorrow, March 12, against University of Southern Maine. Game is slated for 12:30 p.m. ET at the Main Field at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla.
