Wrestling Competes at Lower Midwest Regional

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Illinois Wesleyan University men's wrestling team completed day one of its first-ever NCAA Division III Lower Midwest Region Championships Thursday, Feb. 29 at Alliant Energy Powerhouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. 

Junior Bobby Conroy (St. Louis, Mo.-St. Louis University High) won his opening bout at 184-pounds in a pin over Victor Flores of Simpson College in just over a minute (1:02). In the second round of the championship bracket, Conroy fell to Kam Royster of Loras College in a narrow 5-4 decision. Meeting Braiden Young of Augustana College in the third round of consolations, Conroy fell in a 7-5 decision to conclude his day with a 1-2 record.

After receiving a bye in the first round of the 133-pound bracket, freshman Austin Johnston (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) faced the No. 6 regionally-ranked Bryce Park of Coe College where he ultimately fell in a 20-3 technical fall. Looking to bounce back in the consolation bracket, Johnston defeated Nolan Hguyen of Buena Vista University in a 17-8 major decision. Johnston would later fall to Aiden Evans of Loras College in a 15-0 technical fall to finish his day at 1-2.

Senior Sebastian Chisari (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) closed out his senior season with a narrow 7-5 decision loss in the first round against Sam Weaver of Nebraska Wesleyan University before falling to Mason Clem of Millikin University by a late pin (4:47).

The Titans wrapped up their 2024 campaign on day one of the Lower Midwest Regionals.
