Men’s Tennis Hits the Courts for Pair of Duels

Titans to take on Monmouth and Principia

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team returns to the courts this weekend, Saturday Feb. 17, to play host to Monmouth College and Principia College. The Green and White will take on the Scots at 8:45 a.m. before playing the Panthers at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Racquet Club. 

The Titans sit at 1-1 on the young spring season, and are fresh off a win against Lawrence University, 9-0, Saturday, Feb. 3 after dropping their morning contest to NCAA Division I foe Eastern Illinois University, 7-0, at Evergreen Racquet Club. 

Sophomore Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington), a Second Team All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin selection last season, picked up wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, alongside senior Ryan McCoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Rolling Meadows), in the Titans' Feb. 3 victory over Lawrence University. 

The Green and White sophomore-junior combo of Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter Academy) and Zeke Cross (Springfield, Ill.-Springfield) also picked up a win in No. 2 doubles, while Thad Dillow (Effingham, Ill.-Effingham) and Griffin Hammond (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) gave the Titans a clean sweep over Lawrence with their victory at No. 3 doubles.

Monmouth College returns to action after an 0-2 opening weekend against Simpson College and Luther College Saturday, Feb. 10. The Scots dropped their match 6-1 to Simpson before being swept 9-0 courtesy of the Norse. Saturday will mark the Titans sixth all-time matchup against the Scots, with the Green and White taking the most recent contest, 9-0, last season, Feb. 18, 2023. 

Principia College enters the matches at 1-0 on the season after defeating University of St. Mary (Kansas) Saturday, Feb. 10 by a 7-2 score in Elsah, Ill. All-time, the Titans are 0-6 against the Panthers, dropping their most recent contest 8-1 on Feb. 11, 2023.
