Posts Power Men’s Hoops to Win at Webster

Titans travel to Chicago Wednesday, Nov. 27

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The 16th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University men's basketball team rolled to a 70-44 win at Webster University Saturday afternoon, Nov. 23. With the win, the Titans completed a perfect weekend at the Gorlok Classic and moved to 4-0, The Gorloks dropped to 0-5.

The play inside the post by seniors Harrison Wilmsen (St. Louis, Mo.-Priory) and Marko Anderson (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) paced the Titans. Wilmsen scored a team-high 14 points with seven rebounds, while Anderson finished with 10 points and six boards. Junior Nathan Boldt (Deer Park, Ill.-Barrington) tied Anderson and sophomore Mason Funk (Normal, Ill.-University High) with seven rebounds.

As a team, IWU connected on 26-of-65 shots, good for a 40.0 clip, including an 8-of-24 showing from distance. Illinois Wesleyan went 10-of-17 at the free throw line. The Titan defense stymied Webster, as the Gorloks went 17-for-61 (27.9 percent) overall. Webster finished 6-of-18 from beyond the arc and 4-for-4 at the free throw line.

The Green and White dominated the glass, finishing with a 53-34 advantage. Illinois Wesleyan also won the turnover battle, 16-14.

Wilmsen scored IWU's first four points before senior Nick Roper (St. Louis, Mo.-Priory) turned a steal by sophomore Jackson Niego (Western Springs, Ill.-Lyons Township) into Hakim Williams (Round Lake, Ill.-Round Lake) layup. 

A three-pointer by freshman Josh Fridman (Northbrook, Ill.-Glenbrook North) and a bucket by Anderson lifted IWU to a 21-8 with 12:10 to play in the first half.

Sophomore Karlo Colak (Glencoe, Ill.-New Trier) stretched the lead to 15 with a layup late in the half as Illinois Wesleyan carried a 36-21 lead into the break.

Freshman Alex Miller (Woodridge, Ill.-Downers Grove North) gave the Titans their largest lead of the game, 70-42, in the closing minutes off an assist from sophomore Dylan Schmidt (Johnsburg, Ill.-Johnsburg) as the Green and White grabbed their fifth straight victory.

Illinois Wesleyan travels to Chicago this Wednesday, Nov. 27, to close out its four-game roadtrip against University of Chicago. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
