Titans Produce Six All-Conference Finishes at CCIW Championships

WARRENVILLE, Ill. — A crisp 55 degree afternoon at St. James Farm saw six Illinois Wesleyan University cross country runners turn in All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin performances as the IWU women had five finish in the top-20 and senior Nick Fisch (Woodridge, Ill.-Montini Catholic) placed 16th for the men at the CCIW Championships Saturday, Nov. 2. 

IWU's women totaled 65 points for a second place team finish behind Wheaton College who won the conference title with 50 points. On the men's side, IWU finished in sixth place, besting last year's seventh place showing, as the Titans totaled 160 points. North Central cruised to its 50th straight CCIW title with 25 points followed by Augustana with 65 points.

The women's six-kilometer kicked off the day's action as junior Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High) and senior Annalese Chudy (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) swiftly moved into the lead pack sitting fourth and fifth, respectively.

With one lap to go, Crabtree found herself in the fifth position but managed to kick down a pair of runners on the final straight away to finish third in 22:18.87.

Chudy turned in the third All-CCIW First Team performance of her career as she placed ninth with a time of 22:49.92. 

Freshman Maddie Morgan (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard West) and senior Emma McGrath (Oak Lawn, Ill.-Oak Lawn) turned in personal-best efforts to finish 14th (23:04.26) and 19th (23:13.04), respectively, and locked in All-CCIW Second Team accolades. 

Junior Brooke Nazos (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia) had a season-best time of 23:20.67 as she finished 20th and took hold of the final spot on the All-CCIW Second Team.

Sophomore Skyler Tomecki (Downers Grove, Ill.-Downers Grove South), and juniors Abby Quinn (Chicago, Ill.-Marist) and Prissilla Tucker (Santa Rosa, Calif.-Windsor) all turned in career-bests.

IWU's men's squad was led by Fisch who settled into the top-25 early on in the 8K. Coming into the final straight-away Fisch had worked himself into the top-20, ultimately finishing in a career-best time of 25:16.66 to earn the second All-CCIW honor of his cross country career as the senior was named to the second team.

Senior Ernie Waterson (Bloomington, Ill.-Cornerstone Christian Academy) and junior Seth Hamerski (Mount Vernon, Ill.-Webber) also had a career-best efforts as Waterson's 26:18.29 was good for 35th place while Hamerski was not far behind in 37th coming in at 26:23.98.

Also running personal-best times on the men's side were freshmen Jack Thomas (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) and Jacob Pinkston (Tinley Park, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East), sophomore Aidan Nishimura (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Hersey), and junior Zach Marquardt (Minneapolis, Minn.-Washburn).

IWU heads to Rock Island, Ill. on Nov. 16 for the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championships.
