Men’s Soccer Readies for CCIW opener

Titans go into CCIW with no losses

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - With the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play on the horizon, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team is set to start conference action this Saturday, Oct. 5 against Carthage College.

The last meeting between the two teams was when the Green and White made history and became the first team in program history to win a CCIW championship and to go to the NCAA tournament. IWU defeated CC 3-2 with three minutes left in the game to take the last goal to put Illinois Wesleyan in the lead for the win. 

The Titans and the Firebirds have met 32 times prior to the meeting on Saturday, dating back to 1995. Carthage takes the overall record with a 22-8-2 record over Illinois Wesleyan. 

Recently, the Firebirds have played two other CCIW schools thus far with Millikin on Saturday, Sept. 28 and Carroll on Wednesday Oct. 2. Carthage took a win over MU, 2-0, but dropped to Carroll, 2-1. CC is going into Saturday's matchup with a 5-4-1 overall record, and are 1-1 in league play. 

IWU goes into the Saturday game 6-0-2 with its most recent game against Wabash College where the Little Giants and the Titans tied at 1-1. Freshman Elsworth McIntosh (Lake in the Hills, Ill.-Harry D. Jacobs) had the sole goal for IWU with an assist from senior Justin Bruso (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community)
