Men’s Soccer Travels to Carroll for CCIW Quarterfinals

IWU earns sixth seed and Carroll is third

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team looks for redemption against College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Carroll University as the Titans face off with the Pioneers in a CCIW Quarterfinal round, Saturday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. inside Schneider Stadium. 

Last year, the Titans entered the tournament as the sixth seed and battled their way to the conference championship match where they claimed the first-ever CCIW Tournament title in program history. In the quarterfinals, IWU faced North Park University and ended the game tied, but was able to move on by way of penalty kicks. In the semifinal round, the Green and White found itself in a similar situation facing Wheaton College in PKs. Tied 2-2, IWU saw a 7-6 advantage in penalty kicks to move on to the conference championship.

Meeting Carthage College, the five seed, in the championship match, the Titans were fully prepared for another battle. The score was tied 2-2 until the 87th minute when Brody Seaton scored the game-winning goal to send them to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history. 

After losing to Millikin University Wednesday night, Illinois Wesleyan was placed in the sixth seed for the CCIW tournament. North Central College takes the fifth seed, while Millikin is seeded fourth. Wheaton clinched the regular season title followed closely behind by the second seed, North Park, which is ranked ninth nationally. North Central and Millikin game will face off at 12 p.m. Saturday. 

Illinois Wesleyan goes into Saturday's competition with an overall record of 9-4-3 and is 3-4-1 in CCIW action. Carroll is 9-4-4 overall and finished with a 5-2-1 record in league play. 

The last meeting between the two teams was only a week prior Saturday, Oct. 26. Carroll took the win over IWU with a score of 3-nil. The Titans and the Pioneers have met 10 times previously dating back to 2009. Currently, Illinois Wesleyan holds a 6-2-2 record over the Pioneers. 

With a single elimination tournament, the winner of Saturday's game will move on to play the number two seed North Park Wednesday, Nov. 6. 

The Titans face off with the Pioneers in a CCIW Quarterfinal round at 4 p.m. inside Schneider Stadium.
