Women’s Soccer Drops Contest to North Central

Senior day up next as Titans host Carroll Oct. 26

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Despite a valiant effort Wednesday evening, Oct. 23 the Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team suffered a 6-0 loss at the hands of College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe North Central College. IWU falls to 3-10-2 and 1-4-1 in conference play as NCC climbs to 13-4 and 5-1 in the CCIW.

NCC got on the board in the sixth minute before increasing its lead to two in the 21st minute.

A two-on-one situation with a pair of Cardinals and freshman Grace Kiewiet (Leawood, Kan.-Notre Dame de Sion) saw the young keeper with a point blank save to keep the score within two.

The crucial save could only do so much as the Cardinals found their third scoring opportunity in the 37th minute to take a 3-nil lead into the half.

Out of the break, NCC picked up two quick goals forcing the Titans to trail 5-0. The Green and White defense stepped it up in the second half, holding the Cardinals to only nine shots but a late North Central goal finalized the 6-0 defeat for Illinois Wesleyan.

In total, IWU trailed five shots to 24 with four being on goal. Kiewiet recorded seven saves on the night.

Illinois Wesleyan returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 26 as it hosts Carroll University on Neis Field. The match will serve as the opener in a senior day double feature alongside the IWU men's program.
