Men’s Soccer Sees Second Loss of Season to Cardinals

Senior day on the horizon, Oct. 26

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team took a loss to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe North Central College Wednesday night, Oct. 23. The Titans dip to a 9-2-3 overall record and are now 3-2-1 in league play. NCC moves to a 7-4-4 overall record with a 3-2-1 conference record.

The first half saw an even matchup between the Cardinals and the Titans. NCC saw five corner kicks to the Green and White's three, whereas the Titans took six shots to the Cardinals three. Junior goalkeeper Sam Kedzior (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove) ended the half with one key save to stop North Central from scoring at point-blank with a quick dive and save.

The Cardinals were the first to put a goal in the back of the net, doing so in the 61st minute. There was no answer from the Titans until the 85th minute of the game when juniors Logan Tierney (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) and Kalabi Kamau (Alpharetta, Ga.-Marist School) connected for a Titan goal.

Kamau took the ball down the right side of the field dribbling past his defender into the corner. Crossing it into the box, Tierney was waiting for the ball and took a swift right kick to the bottom left of the goal for the equalizer at 1-1.

With the momentum, the Titans looked to capitalize, but an own goal put the Cardinals up 2-1 with only a minute left to play, ultimately giving NCC the win.

Kedzior ended the game with three saves, seeing a total of seven shots, and four shots on goal.

Men's soccer readies for senior day, Saturday, Oct. 26 at 3:30 p.m. on Neis Field against Carroll University. Women's soccer takes the field first at 1 p.m. in the double header.
