NAPERVILLE, Ill. - One week removed from his first career victory, Illinois Wesleyan University senior men's golfer
Griffin Pohl (Western Springs, Ill.-Lyons Township) hauled in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men's Golfer of the Week status for the fourth time in his career Wednesday, Oct. 16. It is the second weekly award for Pohl, who garnered the honor Oct. 2, this season.
The Western Springs, Ill. product propelled the fourth-ranked Titans to the team title at the Wabash Fall Invitational, Oct. 7-8, as he registered the first win of his career. Pohl carded rounds of 66, 74, and 69 on the par-72, 6904-yard Broadmoor Country Club to earn the victory behind a career-best performance. In his final round of the tournament, Pohl pulled away with an eagle and birdie on the 17th and 18th holes, respectively. The strong finish capped off a memorable round for Pohl, who aced hole No. 4 with a pitching wedge from 156 yards out. The win marked the first of his career as Pohl finished with a career-low 54-hole total of 209.
Pohl and the Titans completed the fall portion of their 2024-25 schedule earlier this week. Illinois Wesleyan will return to action in the spring with its remaining schedule set to be released in the coming months. Wednesday's announcement, which was for the period of Oct. 7-13, marks the last weekly CCIW award of the fall portion of the season. The league office will resume the award in March.
