Men’s Soccer Sees First Loss of the Season

Titans are back in action Wednesday, Oct. 16

CHICAGO  - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team saw its unbeaten streak snapped Saturday, Oct. 12 against College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe and No. 16 ranked North Park University. The Vikings move to 9-1-4 on the season and 3-1-1 in league play. The Titans fall to 8-1-2 overall, and 2-1 in conference. 

The opening half saw NPU with the first goal in the 21st minute of the game off of a corner kick. The Vikings scored once again in the 40th minute of game play off of a header to bring their lead to 2-0. 

At the end of the half, the Titans took three shots to the Vikings 14 with NPU up 7-0 in shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Sam Kedzior (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove) tallied four saves in the first 45 minutes between the pipes. 

IWU's defense stepped it up in the second half, holding the VIkings to only eight shots and Kedzior recording five stops to keep the score at 2-nil. Despite attempting eight shots of their own, the Titans were unable to land one as they suffered the shutout defeat.

Kedzior finished with 90 minutes in goal and nine total saves. NPU took 12 shots on goal to IWU's one with 11 total shots for the Titans and 22 for the Vikings. 

The Titans are back on the pitch Wednesday night, Oct. 16 against Augustana College. Game is set for 7 p.m. on Neis Field.
