BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – After picking up its first win in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team shifts focus for a CCIW bout with North Park University. Match is set for 5 p.m. in Chicago, Ill. and will be the first game of a doubleheader with the Titan men's team at the Holmgren Athletic Complex.
IWU (3-7-1, 1-1 CCIW) picked up its first league win in a midweek match under the lights of Neis Field Wednesday, Oct. 9, as the Green and White shutout the Wheaton College Thunder (4-7-1, 1-1-1 CCIW), 3-0. Headlining the contest was freshman Liza Wiley (Bloomington, Ind.-Home School) who scored two goals on the night with the assistance of freshman
Keira Robinson (Bloomington, Ind.-Bloomington South) and junior
Sammie Shanks (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic), respectively. Shanks and senior
Tegan Timerman (Peoria, Ill.-Peoria Notre Dame) had the double dish to junior
Bree Cordray (Le Roy, Ill.-University High) in the sixth minute to start the Titan run. Freshman
Grace Kiewiet (Leawood, Kan.-Notre Dame de Sion) showed her prowess in the net, recording eight saves to hand Wheaton only its second scoreless game of the season.
Kiewiet's 6.50 saves per game ranks second in the CCIW and her .800 save percentage sits third.
Wiley leads the Titans with 19 points while her 1.73 points per game average ranks fourth in the league. Additionally, Wiley's nine goals on the year sit 39th in the nation while her 0.82 goals per game put her in the top-50 nationally.
North Park is the final team in the conference still looking for its first win in league play as they carry a 4-6-1, 0-2-1 CCIW record into Saturday. NPU recently fell 1-0 in a close match with Elmhurst University Wednesday, Oct. 9.
In a series history that dates back to IWU's inaugural season in 1994, the Titans hold a 27-3 advantage over the Vikings that includes a 24-game win streak. A season ago, the Green and White shutout NPU 1-0, Oct. 14, 2023.
