Men's Soccer Soars Past the Spartans

Titans out to 2-0 start since 2016

AURORA, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team secured its second shutout of the season Wednesday night, Sept. 6, with a 2-0 win at Aurora University. With the win, the Titans are off to their first 2-0 start to the season since 2016. Aurora dipped to 1-1-0 with the loss.

Senior CJ Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, Calif. - Dos Pueblos) intercepted a ball in the midfield in the 17th minute and threaded a perfect pass ahead to freshman Faheem Mujahid (Saint Robert, Mo. - Waynesville). Gaining possession in stride, Mujahid split two defenders to score the first goal of the game.

Mujahid's goal was the lone tally of the first half as IWU went to the break with a 1-0 cushion.

The Spartans controlled possession for much of the second half, but the Titans held steady to keep their lead intact.

IWU finally found an insurance goal late, as Mujahid notched his second of the night with 10 seconds to play. The Saint Robert, Mo. product capitalized on a one-on-one with the goal, chipping a shot over the Aurora keeper's reach to double the IWU lead and finish off the victory.

Sophomore Sam Kedzior (Cary, Ill. - Cary Grove) had an excellent game with a full 90 minutes between the pipes and totaled six saves in the game.

The Titans return home Tuesday, Sept. 12 for a non-conference contest against Greenville University. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start under the lights.
