Men’s Soccer Travels to Aurora for First Away Match of 2023 Season

Titans enter Wednesday’s contest off season-opening win

9/5/2023 1:00:00 PM

AURORA, Ill. - After Friday's thriller against Washington University in St. Louis, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team is looking to score another non-conference win against Aurora University Wednesday, Sept. 6. The Titans and Spartans will face off at 7 p.m. at the Spartan Athletic Park with IWU looking for its first 2-0 start since the 2016 season.

Illinois Wesleyan fought a tough battle against the Bears in their season opener on Friday and left with a victory in hand, as freshman Faheem Mujahid (Saint Robert, Mo.-Waynesville) scored the only goal of the game early in the second half. The goal secured the Titans first-ever win against WashU in their 21-game history.

Head coach Kyle Schauls has led the Titans to 69 wins, making him the winningest coach in the program history. Schauls's record surpasses Ryan Lakin's 67 wins, who now leads the Spartans, and was the previous head coach for the Green and White.

Wednesday's contest will be the 15th all-time meeting between the Titans and Spartans, dating back to 1993. Aurora holds a slim 7-6-1 series advantage, with most wins coming by way of a six-game winning streak from 1993-2000. The two programs last met Sept. 10, 2022, which saw a 2-1 IWU victory.
