Women’s Soccer Edged by Wheaton

Titans to face Augustana in Rock Island Oct. 4

Box Score WHEATON, Ill. – Facing Wheaton College on the evening of the Thunder's homecoming, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team fell 2-1 inside Joe Bean Stadium, weakening their record to 1-9-1 (0-2-1 CCIW) while Wheaton (2-5-3, 1-0-0 CCIW) picks up its first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin win.

After 30 scoreless minutes, junior forward Madalyn Buxton (Springfield, Ill.-Pleasant Plains) broke the deadlock after a long deflection by Wheaton's keeper left the goal defenseless in the 32nd minute of play. Freshman Ava Mapes (Golden, Colo.-Lakewood)  was credited with the assist to help the Titans lead 1-nil through the first half. The Green and White led the opening half with 10 shots to the Thunder's eight. 

Wheaton put up an aggressive front at the start of the second half, scoring its first goal four minutes in. Wheaton's Maddie Grinstead notched an unassisted goal in the 59th minute to pull ahead, 2-1.

Junior goalkeeper Audrey Hofstetter (Gilbert, Ariz.-Perry) faced four shots on goal and added two saves to her season's total of 19.

Illinois Wesleyan continues its run of away games as they head to Rock Island, Ill. Wednesday, Oct. 4 for a CCIW matchup with Augustana College (8-1-2, 1-0-1 CCIW).
