Titans Bested by Big Blue

IWU returns to action at Wheaton, Sept. 30

DECATUR, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team dropped its latest College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin contest at Millikin University, 2-0, Wednesday night, Sept. 27. The Titans fall to a 1-8-1 (0-1-1 CCIW) record, while the Big Blue advance to 5-4 (1-1 CCIW).

A scoreless first half saw the Titans trail 11-2 in shots while junior goalkeeper Audrey Hofstetter (Gilbert, Ariz.-Perry) took her post in the net to pick up three saves in the opening half.

Illinois Wesleyan matched shot-for-shot with Millikin in the second half at three apiece, but the Big Blue maximized their attempts.

Making a strong push to open the second half of play, Millikin scored on a corner kick continuation to put itself on the board with a 1-nil lead in the 51st minute. The Titans found themselves in a footrace with Big Blue forward Hailie Schaffman who sent a long range shot in goal, putting Millikin up 2-0 in the 69th minute of regulation.

The Titans are back on the road Saturday, Sept. 30 as they take on the Wheaton College Thunder (1-5-3). Kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. inside Joe Bean Stadium and will be followed by the Illinois Wesleyan men's game at 7 p.m.
