Women’s Soccer Battles Back for Draw with Firebirds

Titans Travel to Decatur for midweek conference game

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team used a second-half goal to secure a point in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin standings Saturday, Sept. 23, at Neis Field. IWU (1-6-1, 0-0-1 CCIW) tied 1-1 against Carthage College in its conference opener.

The Titans fought hard in the first half with two amazing saves from goalkeeper Audrey Hofstetter (Gilbert, Ariz-Perry), but Carthage scored on a shot that just grazed her hands into the upper center of the goal to take a 1-0 lead.

Hofstetter and the Titan defense kept the Firebirds off the scoreboard from that point on. Illinois Wesleyan drew the match even in the 54th minute courtesy of junior Tegan Timerman's (Peoria, Ill.-Peoria Notre Dame) first goal of the season.

Ultimately, Timerman's strike closed out the scoring as the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Hoffstetter finished with four saves in the match.

The Titans play its College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play Wednesday, Sept. 27  at Millikin University. Kickoff at Frank M. Lindsay Field is set for 7 p.m.
