Men’s Soccer Takes on Carthage to Open CCIW Play

Titans to raise money for children’s cancer during match

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team will open College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action against Carthage College Saturday, Sept. 23. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. as the backend of a doubleheader with the women's soccer team at Nies Field. The game will serve as IWU's cancer awareness game.

The Titans have joined forces with the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation's Vs. Cancer program to defeat childhood brain cancer – the deadliest disease affecting children in the United States, and will raise money during Saturday's contest. Fans that would like to join IWU in its figh can donate to the cancer foundation here.

The Green and White enter tomorrow's match with a record of 2-3-0 overall, dropping its last match to Knox College, 3-1, Tuesday, Sept. 19. The Firebirds go into the weekend with an overall record of 5-2, most recently defeating 13th-ranked Calvin University, 4-2, Wednesday, Sept. 20. 

The two squads have met 30 times before dating all the way back to 1995. Carthage holds a 22-7-1 advantage over Illinois Wesleyan. The last time the two teams met was on Sept. 24, 2022, where the Firebirds bested the Titans, 3-1.
