Women’s Soccer Falls to Sewanee

Titans to host No. 6 WashU Sept. 20

Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team completed its fifth road game in a week in Sewanee, Tenn. Sunday, Sept. 17 as the Titans were downed, 3-0, by Sewanee: The University of the South. 

Illinois Wesleyan moves to a 1-6-0 record, while Sewanee is now 2-1-2. After the Tigers scored on a fast break in the first minute of play, the Titan defense stepped up to hold Sewanee to only four shots in the first half. 

Sewanee picked up goals in the 53rd and 74th minutes of play. The Titans held the Tigers to 10 total shots while finding only three shots for themselves. Sophomore Sammie Shanks (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) played the final 39 minutes in the goalkeeper's box and recorded two saves.

Illinois Wesleyan returns home Wednesday, Sept. 20 for a nonconference match against No. 6 Washington University in St. Louis. The contest is set for 5 p.m. at Neis Field.
