Titans Take Second at IWU Fall Classic

Six players finish in top-20 individually

NORMAL, Ill. - Senior Emma Thorman (Macomb, Ill.-Macomb) tied the program's 36-hole record as the Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team finished runner-up at the IWU Fall Classic at Ironwood Golf Course Sunday, Sept. 17. Playing through various bouts of rain, the Titans carded an impressive 297 on the 5805-yard, par-72 course to finish three strokes off the lead.

No. 2 ranked WashU took the team title with a 36-hole score of 584, as the Bears' Sydney Kuo finished three-under (141) to earn medalist honors. IWU placed second at 587, while Rose-Hulman (305-295=600) rounded out the top-three. IWU's 'B' team tied for eighth (624).

Thorman, who tied for second in the 112-player tournament, tied the program record as she finished two-under par for the weekend. Thorman carded a final round 73, tying junior Jadyn Spinks (Bloomington, Ill.-University High) for the best round by a Titan on the day. The one-over 73 tied a career-best for Spinks, who tied for 18th.

Junior Macy Ludwig (Effingham, Ill.-St. Anthony) tied for ninth following a final round four-over 76. Senior Lexi Onsrud (Normal, Ill.-University High) tied for 12th, while junior Jacque O'Neill (Harbor Springs, Mich.-Harbor Springs) tied for 18th alongside Spinks.

Playing as an individual, junior Claire Ancevicius (Homer Glen, Ill.-Lockport) put together a career-best showing. After setting her career-low with a 76 in round one, she tallied a three-over 75 to close out a tie for 14th at 151.

Illinois Wesleyan enjoys some time off before traveling to Stevens Point, Wis. for the Mad Dawg Invite hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Sept. 30-Oct. 1. The two-day tournament will be played at SentryWorld.
