Box Score HOLLAND, Mich. – After trekking to Holland, Mich. for a midweek, non-conference matchup with Hope College, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team suffered a 5-0 defeat Wednesday, Sept. 13, moving the Titans to a 1-4-0 record on the season.
The 2-0-2 Flying Dutch took charge of the contest early on, having an 18-2 edge in shots in the first half. Hope scored their first goal in the 18th minute of play as Liz Bellinger narrowly won a one-on-one battle in the box to give Hope the 1-nil advantage. Hope came back in the 41st minute for another goal to lead 2-0 heading into the second half of regulation.
The Flying Dutch scored three more times in the second 45 to put the game out of reach, 5-0.
Illinois Wesleyan goalkeeper Kayla Borg (McHenry, Ill.-Cary Grove) turned in a new career-high 17 saves against 22 shots on goal.
The Titans take their trip south to Atlanta, Ga. for a nonconference match with Emory No. 24 Emory University Friday, Sept. 15. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. (ET).
