Women’s Volleyball Opens CCIW Play at Carroll

First serve scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Van Male Fieldhouse

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After a weekend at home, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team will travel to Waukesha, Wis. to take on Carroll University in a midweek match Wednesday, Sept. 13. The match will serve as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opener for each team. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Van Male Fieldhouse.

The Titans (1-5) enter the match off a win over 15th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Saturday, Sept. 9, going the full five sets to do so. Sophomore Taylor French (Romeoville, Ill.-Plainfield East) led the offense with 22 kills, while sophomore Katie Gund (Pewaukee, Wis.-Pewaukee) orchestrated the majority of the offense, racking up 24 assists. Senior Faith Washko (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred-Heart Griffin) commanded the defense, finishing with 28 digs.

Carroll (3-4) comes in off a five-set victory over Illinois Institute of Technology Saturday, Sept. 9. 

Wednesday's contest will be the 10th meeting between the two programs, dating back to 1995. IWU holds a commanding 8-1 lead in the series, including the last three matchups. The most recent meeting came on Sept. 14, 2022, with the Green and White sweeping the Pioneers. French paced the offense with 15 kills on a .324 attack percentage and three aces. Then-junior Taylor Babec (Joliet, Ill.-Plainfield Central) and then-sophomore Morgan Harrington (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield East) led a heavy net defense, registering five blocks apiece. 

Through the first six matches of the season, the Titans have seen French lead the offense, having totaled 106 kills for an average of 4.24 kills per set. Freshman Sophia Feeney (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) leads the Green and White in assists with 124, an average of 4.96 assists per set. Washko has notched a team-high 16 aces for an average of 0.64 per set. 

Defensively, Washko leads the team in digs with 117, averaging 4.68 digs per set. French sits second with 83 for a 3.32 digs per set average. Babec and freshman Eleanor Palmer (Chicago, Ill.-DePaul College Prep) have led the net defense, each sitting with 11 total blocks for an average of 0.44 per set. Babec has posted a team-best three solo rejections, while Palmer has one.
