Illinois Wesleyan Falls to Simpson in Home Opener

Titans return for home action on Sept. 6

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – In its first home contest of the 2023 season, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team was downed, 2-0, by Simpson College at Neis Field Friday, Sept. 1.

Simpson controlled the possession for much of the first half, breaking away for a goal in the third minute of play as Cassie Nash set up Brissa Valadez for a quick goal. The Storm found an opportunity to extend the score in the 35th minute with Nash connecting with Averi Baas across the box to gain a 2-0 lead over the Titans.

Junior goalkeeper Kayla Borg (McHenry, Ill.-Cary Grove) helped settle the momentum as she totaled four saves on 10 shots in the first half of the contest. The Titan defense held Simpson to only five shots in the second half with Borg recording three saves.

The Titans put two shots on goal to the Storms nine. Simpson had nine corner kick opportunities while Illinois Wesleyan notched two attempts.

Illinois Wesleyan returns to Neis Field on Wednesday, Sept. 6 for a non-conference game against Knox College. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
