Women’s Lacrosse 2023 Season Ends in CCIW Tournament Semifinals

Titans fall to top-seeded University of Chicago

CHICAGO - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team saw its 2023 season come to a close in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament Semifinals, as the Titans (7-11, 3-3 CCIW) fell 23-4 to top-seeded University of Chicago Wednesday, May 3. 

Offensively, the Titans were led by junior Britney Maldonado (Hoffman Estates, Ill.-James B. Conant), who finished with two goals and an assist for three points. Senior Carlyn Bratt (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) and freshman Carleigh Fountain (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) each notched a goal for the Green and White. 

Defensively, senior Julia Raczykowski (Minooka, Ill.-Minooka Community), junior Hannah Trousdale (Mt. Prospect, Ill.-Hoffman Estates), and sophomore Mallory Mills (Schaumburg, Ill.-James B. Conant) each caused one turnover for the Titans. Senior Jennie Hubbard (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles East), sophomore Mia Fiandaca (St. Charles, Ill.-St. Charles North), and freshman Devon Hanson (Waukesha, Wis.-Waukesha West) scooped up one ground ball apiece. 

Illinois Wesleyan was credited with 12 draw controls, as Fiandaca, Fountain, Hanson, and senior Sarah Gleason (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) each finished with three. 

Freshman Simone Shapiro (Glen Ellyn, Ill.-Glenbard West) got the start in between the posts. In 15 minutes of action, Simone made three saves while allowing nine goals. Sophomore Lizzie Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Saint Viator) came in relief, making three saves with five goals allowed in the second period. Senior Rebecca Rymarcsuk (Lake Zurich, Ill.-Lake Zurich Senior) played the second half in goal, making nine saves on a .500 save percentage to finish her career. 

The match saw Bratt, Gleason, Hubbard, Raczykowski, Rebecca Rymarcsuk, fifth-year Heather Dietrich (Geneseo, Ill.-Geneseo), and senior Kelly Carlson (Western Springs, Ill.-Lyons Township) wrap up their career for the Titans. Head coach Grainne Kelly is set to return 16 for the 2024 campaign.
