Men’s Tennis Sweeps Elmhurst

Titans pick up first CCIW win of season

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team swept Elmhurst University, 9-0, Thursday afternoon, April 13. With the win, the Titans move to 9-8 overall, and 1-4 in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action. 

In doubles action, freshman Ian Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) and senior Carter Burk (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High) took an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Juniors Ryan McCoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Rolling Meadows) and Evan Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) picked up a win at No. 2 doubles, finishing with a score of 8-0.

In the individual portion, Ian Turnbull used set scores of 6-1, 6-2, to pick up a win at No. 1 singles. No. 2 singles saw freshman Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter Academy) walk away with the decision, winning his sets 6-0, 6-3. Evan Turnbull was victorious at No. 3 singles with scores 6-3, 6-0, while sophomore Zeke Cross (Springfield, Ill.-Springfield) won his sets, 6-1, 6-0, to pick up the win at No. 4 singles. Freshman Griffin Hammond (Metamora, Ill.-Metamora Township) rounded out the match with a victory at No. 5 singles, winning both sets, 6-1.

No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles was won by the Titans due to low numbers. 

IWU returns to action at home this weekend, taking on Carthage College Saturday, April 15. Action is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
