Men’s Volleyball Stymied by Augustana

Titans fall in three sets to CCIW foe

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team fell to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Augustana College Saturday night, March 11. The Titans (9-10, 0-4 CCIW) dropped in straight sets with scores 25-18, 25-21, 25-20. 

As a team, Illinois Wesleyan was held to a .149 attack percentage, while the Vikings capitalized on a .382 match clip. Augie held the statistical advantage in kills (43-27), aces (2-1), blocks (8-4), assists (41-27), and digs (26-18). 

Offensively, Julian Perez (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) led the Titans with six kills, while junior Michael Eastman (Chicago, Ill.-Saint Ignatius) and sophomore Jake Kougan (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) each added five. Eastman had the lone ace for the Green and White. Junior Bradley Benson's (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont Township) 15 assists in the match was a team-best.

On the defensive side, Eastman recorded a team-high four digs, followed by Benson and junior Adam Blackmore (Geneva, Ill.-Geneva) with three apiece. Kougan led the Titans with three blocks at the net, while Eastman, Perez, and freshman Jace Milka (Bolingbrook, Ill.-Plainfield East) each added one rejection. 

The Titans will enjoy a week off before traveling to Dubuque, Iowa, to take on Loras College to round out the first half of the conference season. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18.
