Men’s Volleyball Falters in Four at Fontbonne

Eastman notches 500th career kill

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's volleyball team dropped its match to Fontbonne University Tuesday night, Feb. 7, in four sets (25-19, 25-19, 21-25, 25-20). With the setback, the Titans fall to 4-5 on the season, while the Griffins improved to 4-5.

IWU recorded more kills (50-39) and assists (47-37), but recorded a costly 29 errors in the match, compared to the Griffin's 17. Fontbonne held the statistical advantage in aces (6-3), blocks (13-4), and had a .212 attack percentage, while the Titans were limited to a .168 clip. Both teams notched 43 digs. 

Junior Michael Eastman's (Chicago, Ill.-Saint Ignatius) 15 kills led the match, and his 10 digs notched him his first double-double performance of the season. He picked up his 500th kill in the match, becoming the first Titan in program history to do so. The Chicago, Ill. native also recorded two blocks and two assists on the night. Junior Julian Perez (Orland Park, Ill.-Carl Sandburg) followed with 11 kills. 

Sophomore Vince DiCosola (Aurora, Ill.-Oswego East) notched a match-high 24 assists and junior Bradley Benson (Lemont, Ill.-Lemont Township) finished with 19.

On the defensive side, junior KJ Johnson (Saint John, Ind.-Marian Catholic) was credited with eight digs, and DiCosola added six for the Titans. Perez recorded a team-high three blocks, all of which were assisted. 

The Titans return to action Friday night in the IWU Invitational, which will take place Friday-Saturday, Feb. 10-11.
