Titans Complete 2-0 Weekend with Win Over Webster

McCoy racks up third combined win over 14 hour stretch

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Coming off a sweep over Monmouth College last night, Feb. 18, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's tennis team won 7-2 over Webster University Sunday afternoon, Feb. 19. Illinois Wesleyan moves to 3-3, while Webster fell to 3-6 on the season.

The Titans were bolstered by wins at No. 2-6 singles, as junior Ryan McCoy (Arlington Heights, Ill.-Rolling Meadows) picked up the first win at No. 2 with scores of 6-0, 6-2. Senior Carter Burk (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal U High) needed a little extra time to take the win at No. 3 singles (6-3, 7-5). Freshman Ben Vigneri (Casper, Wyo.-Phillips Exeter Academy) was victorious at No. 4 singles, winning his sets 6-1, 6-2, while junior Evan Turnbull (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) picked up the No. 6 singles win, 6-1, 6-0. Junior Zeke Cross (Springfield, Ill.-Springfield) closed out the singles portion of the match with a sweep, as he took both sets 6-0.

The doubles portion of the match saw the Titans reel in two wins. McCoy and Evan Turnbull paired up for an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. Vigneri and Cross fought through a tiebreaker to win at No. 3 doubles with a score of 8-7(3) to close out the dual.

The Green and White will return to action Saturday, Feb. 25 for two dual matches. The first one will take place at Cornell College at 10:30 a.m., followed by a trip to Coe College for a 3 p.m. battle. The Coe match will be live streamed, which can be accessed here. Results will be posted on iwusports.com upon the completion of the matches.
