Titans Shatter Two School Records on Day One of CCIW Championships

Fudge defends 200 yard individual medley title

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. - Two College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin titles highlighted day one of the CCIW Championships for the Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's swim and dive teams Thursday, Feb. 16, in Pleasant Prairie, Wis.

The Titans saw 13 swimmers record a total of 17 personal best times in the opening day of the meet, while two new school records were established.

Sophomore Hadley Fudge (Stanford, Ill.-University) broke her own school record in the 200 yard individual medley, as she clocked in with a time of 2:06.89 to successfully defend her conference championship title.

The team of junior Ethan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community), sophomore Alex Kula (Pekin, Ill.-Pekin Community), junior Jake Kalenowski (South Elgin, Ill.-St. Charles North), and freshman Sam Fogarty (Pontiac, Ill.-Pontiac Township) shattered the school record in the 200 yard freestyle relay, touching with a time of 1:24.09, good for a third-place finish. Lowder, Kula, and Kalenowski were part of the relay team that held the former record.

Lowder secured a top-three finish in the 50 yard freestyle, as he came in second place with a time of 20.89.

The women's 400 medley relay team of freshman Kayleigh Kuschewski (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia), Fudge, sophomore Jade Kaminska (Jablonna, Mazovia, Poland-Maria Konopnicka), and junior Natalie Wajda (Park Ridge, Ill.-Maine South) notched a second-place finish in the 400 yard medley relay, as the group touched with a time of 3:59.40, a season-best for the Green and White.

Action picks back up tomorrow, Feb. 17, with preliminaries beginning at 10:30 a.m. Final heats will get rolling at 6 p.m.
