Women’s Soccer Bested in Tight Battle with Vikings

Titans back on the road Oct. 7 at Carroll University

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – A trip to the Quad Cities cost the Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team a loss in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play after dropping its contest to Augustana College, 1-nil, Wednesday, Oct. 4. IWU dips to 1-10-1 (0-3-1 CCIW) while the Vikings climb to 9-1-2 (2-0-1 CCIW).

The Titans matched up with the Vikings fairly even in the first half falling just shy in shots at 6-5, saves, 3-2, and corners 4-2. Augustana got on the board in the 23rd minute off a long-range goal by Liesl Whitener to lead 1-nil, with what would be the game-winner.

Illinois Wesleyan managed to fend off Augustana's offense through a scoreless second half, holding the Vikings to seven shots while the Titans attempted five. Freshmen Ava Mapes (Golden, Colo.-Lakewood) and Sophie Lampert (Hudson, Ill.-Normal West) and sophomore Sawyer White (Downers Grove, Ill.-Montini Catholic) each had three shot attempts on the evening.

A new face in the net, junior Madalyn Buxton (Springfield, Ill.-Pleasant Plains) totaled five saves in her goalkeeping debut while facing six shots on goal.

The Titans head to Waukesha, Wis. Saturday, Oct. 7 for a CCIW matchup with Carroll University. Kickoff at Schneider Stadium is set for 1 p.m. and will precede the IWU men's game at 3:30 p.m.
