Bloomington, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team picked up a crucial College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin win, shutting out Augustana College, 3-nil, Wednesday night, Oct. 4. With the win, the Titans improve to 3-4-2 overall (1-1-1 CCIW), while Augie dips to 0-8-2 (0-3 CCIW). 

The Titans came out with a fire and were very dominant in the first half. At the 28th-minute mark senior Sasha Tylnyy (Wheeling, Ill.-Buffalo Grove) scored on a header on a great-placed cross from fellow senior CJ Rodgriguez (Santa Barbara, Calif.-Dos Pueblos) to put Illinois Wesleyan on top, 1-0. The Titan defense kept the Vikings scoreless in the first half with an amazing save from sophomore Sam Kedzior (Cary, Ill. Cary Grove) before the Green and White tacked on a couple more goals after the break.

During the second period the Titans did not let up, maintaining control of the match. Tylnyy completed the brace with his second goal of the night in the 52nd minute . After a botched clear by Augie, the Wheeling, Ill. native tipped the ball away from the last defender and tapped it into the back of the goal. Junior Eli Warren (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet Seymour) scored his first goal of the season with a header on a corner service from junior Mush Bakirdan (Morton, Ill.-Morton) at the 83 minute mark. The Titans left the Vikings scoreless for the remainder of the game to end the game at a 3-nil win.

Illinois Wesleyan's next contest is Saturday, Oct. 7 at Carroll University. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. and will follow the IWU women's game against the Pios.
