WARRENVILLE, Ill. – Braving the 50-degree weather and cloudy skies, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's cross country teams turned in their best performances of the season at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship meet at St. James Farm in Warrenville, Ill. Saturday, Oct. 28. Sophomore Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High) became just the third conference champion in Titan history as she led the women's squad to a second-place finish. The men's team finished seventh.

Crabtree maneuvered quickly to the front of the race as she took over the lead position within the first lap of the women's six-kilometer run. A sprint to the finish saw Crabtree secure her first-ever CCIW individual title, joining the likes of Rachel Williams in 2012 and Kerry Devitt in 2009 to be crowned an individual champion. Crabtree was named the Women's CCIW Student-Athlete of the Meet.

Junior Annalese Chudy (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville) found her niche just behind the lead pack, as she turned in a time of 23:18.7 to finish eighth. Both Chudy and Crabtree earned First Team All-CCIW honors with their top-10 finishes, marking the first time since 2017 that the Titans notched two runners in the All-CCIW First Team.

Sophomore Brooke Nazos (Batavia, Ill.-Batavia) made her CCIW debut with a 13th-place finish in a time of 23:35.3 while senior Amanda Wilson (Minooka, Ill.-Minooka) was just on her hip in 15th-place with a 23:45.2 finishing time. Both Nazos and Wilson landed spots on the All-CCIW Second Team.

The women's team standings were separated by only six points as the IWU women's squad totaled 65 points for a second-place showing just behind Millikin's 62 points for first. North Central rounded out the top-three teams with 68 points.

The IWU men's team was led by junior Nick Fisch (Woodridge, Ill.-Montini Catholic) who finished 25th for scorers and 28th overall with a near 20-second personal best time of 26:30.1. Sophomore Zack Daniel (Lake Barrington, Ill.-Barrington) was the Titan's second-man turning in a 37th-overall finish in 26:51.2. Junior Ernie Waterson (Bloomington, Ill. Cornerstone Christian Academy) put together his best race of the season, cutting nearly a minute off his personal best time to turn in at 27:19.1.

The men's squad totaled 194 points for a seventh-place finish while North Central won the conference title with 16 points, followed by Carthage in second with 80 points.

IWU's sophomore Zach Marquardt (Minneapolis, Minn.-Washburn) and senior Sam Perez (Riverside, Ill.-Riverside Brookfield) were named CCIW RESPECT award winners.

The Titans return to Waverly, Iowa Saturday, Nov. 11 for the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Championship hosted by Wartburg College.
