Women’s Volleyball Heads to Wheaton for Final CCIW Clash

Titans enter contest 4-3 in league play

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After a 3-0 weekend in Maine, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team stays on the road, heading to Wheaton, Ill. for a midweek matchup against College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Wheaton College. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside King Arena. 

The Titans (11-12, 4-3 CCIW) enter Wednesday's contest riding a four-game win-streak after finishing the week of Oct. 16-21 with a perfect 4-0 record. Sophomore Taylor French (Romeoville, Ill.-Plainfield East) powered the offense in the stretch, as she totaled 89 kills for an impressive average of 5.24 kills per set on a whopping .243 attack percentage. The sophomore added 65 digs, averaging 3.82 per set, 10 total blocks, seven aces, and four assists to her loaded stat line, earning her CCIW Hitter of the Week honors for the fourth time this season, upping her career total to six. 

French, amid a dominant sophomore season, leads the Titan offense with 420 kills and 476 points, both of which rank third across the nation, while her 4.52 kills per set and 5.12 points per set rank eighth nationally. Senior Lily Summers (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield North) ranks second on the team with 139 kills, while junior Morgan Harrington closely follows with 132. 

Freshman Sophia Feeney (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) and senior Jordan Pierce (Bonfield, Ill.-Herscher) lead the team with 312 and 311 assists, respectively. French's 39 aces are a team-high, while senior Faith Washko (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart-Griffin) sits in second with 29. 

On the defensive side, Washko has recorded 322 digs to lead the team, while French closely trails with 318. Sophomore Raegan Watts (Forsyth, Ill.-Maroa Forsyth) rounds out the top-three with 194. Making a strong net presence in her first collegiate season, freshman Eleanor Palmer (Chicago, Ill.-DePaul College Prep) leads the Green and White with 57 total blocks, 13 of which have come on solo stuffs. Senior Taylor Babec (Joliet, Ill.-Plainfield Central) and Harrington have added 47 and 30 rejections, respectively. 

The Green and White's most recent contest saw a three set sweep of Endicott College Saturday, Oct. 21. French paced the offense with 11 kills, while Summers and Harrington finished with eight and six kills, respectively. Pierce and sophomore Katie Gund (Pewaukee, Wis.-Pewaukee) orchestrated the majority of the offense with 12 assists apiece, while French and Feeney each collected three aces. Summers led the team with 12 digs, and French and Palmer each posted three total blocks.

Wednesday's match marks the 43rd meeting between the Titans and Thunder (9-10, 1-5), with IWU holding a commanding 31-11 mark in the series. The Titans won the most previous meeting in straight sets Oct. 25, 2022. French led the match with 10 kills, while junior Abby Erdman (Aurora, Ill.-Metea Valley) posted a match-high 26 aces, and Gund added four aces on offense. Washko led the match with 21 digs. Wheaton enters the match off a three set victory over Kalamazoo College Saturday, Oct. 21.
