Women’s Volleyball Hosts Elmhurst for Tuesday Night Clash

Titans look to pick up fourth CCIW victory

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Coming off a challenging weekend facing two nationally-ranked opponents at the Washington University in St. Louis Tournament Saturday, Oct. 14, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team looks to get back in the win column, hosting Elmhurst University Tuesday, Oct. 17. The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin matchup will begin at 7 p.m. inside Shirk Center. 

Illinois Wesleyan (7-12, 3-3 CCIW) enters Tuesday's conference after dropping its matches to No. 2 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and No. 12 WashU, falling in four sets to both over the weekend. The Titans saw sophomore Taylor French (Romeoville, Ill.-Plainfield East) put together an impressive tournament, finishing with 37 kills, an average of 4.63 per set, on a .263 attack percentage, 27 digs, three total blocks, three assists, and two aces in eight sets played, earning all-tournament honors. 

The Titans have seen French lead the offense all season, as she ranks among the top-15 nationally in kills (331), kills per set (4.36), points (373), and points per set (4.91). Senior Lily Summers (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield North) is second on the team with 108 kills, while junior Morgan Harrington (Plainfield, Ill.-Plainfield East) rounds out the top-three with 100. 

Freshman Sophia Feeney (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) leads the Green and White with 281 assists, while senior Jordan Pierce's (Bonfield, Ill.-Herscher) 194 ranks second, and junior Abby Erdman (Aurora, Ill.-Metea Valley) sits third with 177. French's 32 aces rank first on the team, while senior Faith Washko (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart-Griffin) and sophomore Raegan Watts (Forsyth, Ill.-Maroa Forsyth) have 26 and 16, respectively. 

On the defensive side, Washko leads IWU with 322 digs, averaging 5.11 digs per set. French sits in second with 253, while Feeney's 160 are the third-most for the Titans. Freshman Eleanor Palmer (Chicago, Ill.-DePaul College Prep) leads the net defense for the Green and White with 48 total blocks, 11 of which have come on solo stuffs. Senior Taylor Babec (Joliet, Ill.-Plainfield Central) ranks second on the team with 37, while Harrington rounds out the top-three with 24 rejections. 

The Bluejays (11-6, 1-3 CCIW) most recently fell in four sets to CCIW foe Augustana College Wednesday, Oct. 11. Tuesday's match will be the 51st meeting in the series, dating back to 1994. EU holds a 29-21 advantage, including the most recent meeting Oct. 19, 2022, as the Titans fell in four on the road. French recorded nine kills, while Erdman led the team with 29 assists and Washko posted a team-high 20 digs.
