Women’s Soccer Secures Senior Day Win

Titans host Elmhurst Oct. 18

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team put together a phenomenal senior send-off for Sarah Johnson (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) with its first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin win over North Park University, 1-0, Saturday, Oct. 14.

Illinois Wesleyan, now 2-11-2 and 1-4-1 in CCIW play, jumped two spots in the conference standings to sit seventh overall after their 1-0 win over the Vikings. North Park dropped just one spot to eighth in the conference with a 2-6-5, 0-3-2 CCIW record.

The Green and White took control of the contest in the first half leading 12-4 in shots and 3-1 in corner kicks. One of those corner kicks would turn into a vital play for the Titans as Sawyer White (Downers Grove, Ill.-Montini Catholic) perfectly placed the inbound for an easy touch goal by junior Audrey Hofstetter (Gilbert, Ariz.-Perry) in the 27th minute of play.

A chippy second half saw North Park take 16 shots to the Titans' three, all to no avail against Illinois Wesleyan's defense. Freshman Adriana Ruffolo (Bloomingdale, Ill.-Glenbard North) faced only one shot on goal in the first half before tallying six more in the second half for a season-best game.

Junior Madalyn Buxton (Springfield, Ill.-Pleasant Plains) and sophomore Jenna Gravitt (Morton, Ill.-Morton) would each attempt three shots as IWU's shot leaders while a trio of Titans would tie for second-most with two shots a piece.

The Titans return to Neis Field Wednesday, Oct. 14 for a CCIW contest against Elmhurst University.
