Men’s Soccer Comeback Beats Conference Leader North Park

Titans head to Elmhurst Wednesday, Oct. 18

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Turning in its biggest comeback of the year, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team upset the conference leading North Park University Vikings in a 3-2 battle. The Titans advance to a 5-4-3 (3-1-2 CCIW) record while North Park falls to 8-5-2 (3-2-1 CCIW). It's been 14 years since the Titans have upset the Vikings. The last win dating back to 2008 with a score of 2-nil Titans.

The first half saw a fairly even half with the Titans leading 9-6 in shots, 5-2 in corners, and 1-0 in saves. Despite trailing in shots, the Vikings maximized on two scoring opportunities in the 12th and 17th minutes of play to lead 2-nil heading into the second half.

The Green and White played lights-out in the second half, outshooting the Vikings 11-4. With 15 minutes into the second half IWU was awarded a penalty kick taken by senior Brody Seaton (Dunlap, Ill.-Peoria Notre Dame), putting it straight past the goalie for the Titans first goal of the game.

The Green and White were fired up and ready because they turned around and scored their second goal of the game just 21 seconds later with a goal from freshman Faheem Mujahid (Saint Robert, Mo.-Waynesville) assisted by CJ Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, Calif.-Dos Pueblos). The duo once again had a chance to capitalize and they made the most of it in the last 3 minutes of the game. With a second pass from Rodriguez to Mujahid, Mujahid ran straight past the last defender to have a one on one with the Vikings goalie. With a boot low right, the goalie couldn't stop it and it slid right past him to make Titans victorious with a 3-2 score to end the game. Sophomore Sam Kedzior (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove) ended the game with 90 minutes between the pipes with 2 goals allowed and 2 saves on the game.

Illinois Wesleyan travels to Elmhurst University on Wednesday, Oct. 18 for a CCIW contest with the Bluejays. Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m. under the lights.
