BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer program returns to College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action Saturday, Oct. 14 after a non-conference midweek bout with the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Saturday's 1 p.m. match against North Park University will double as Senior Day to celebrate Titan senior,
Sarah Johnson (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East).
Illinois Wesleyan holds a 1-11-2 (0-4-1 CCIW) record after its 1-all draw with UW-Whitewater (5-5-3, 1-1-1 WIAC) Wednesday, Oct. 11. The Warhawks turned in an early three-minute-mark goal to lead for much of the contest. The Titans, refusing to back down, saw sophomore Sawyer White (Downers Grove-Montini Catholic) connect a long pass to junior
Sammie Shanks (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) who put the ball away in the 89th minute to secure IWU's second tie of the season.
Adriana Ruffolo (Bloomingdale, Ill.-Glenbard North) made her first appearance in goal as a Titan and totaled four saves.
Shanks joins juniors Madalyn Buxton (Springfield, Ill.-Pleasant Plains),
Tegan Timerman (Peoria, Ill.-Peoria Notre Dame),
Amanda Yaeger (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln-Way West), and freshmen
Sophie Lampert (Hudson, Ill.-Normal West) and
Ava Mapes (Golden, Colo.-Lakewood) as Titan goal scorers this season.
With three games remaining in their regular season, the Titans are neck-and-neck with North Park University and Elmhurst University in conference standings. North Park has a 2-5-5, 0-2-2 CCIW record and is also awaiting its first conference win. The Titans have the upper hand in the 29-year series history, owning a 26-3 record over the Vikings. Their last meeting saw the Green and White claim a 5-2 victory on North Park's home turf, Oct. 15, 2022. Yaeger and Timerman are key returners from last year's matchup with the Vikings as Yaeger assisted on a Titan goal before Timerman notched her own breakaway goal in the final minute of play.
Ahead of the contest, IWU will celebrate the accomplishments of 2022 CCIW regular season and tournament championship team member Sarah Johnson for Senior Day.
Kickoff at Neis Field is slated for 1 p.m. with Senior Day festivities to begin 10 minutes prior to game time. The IWU men's game will follow the women's contest at 3:30 p.m. The women's match will be available via live stream here, and live stats can be viewed
