Women’s Soccer Ties Warhawks in Final Minute

Titans host North Park for Senior Day Oct. 14

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – After falling behind in the third minute of play, the Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team rallied for an 89th-minute goal to end in a 1-all deadlock with non-conference opponent, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Wednesday, Oct. 11 at Neis Field.

UW-Whitewater set the pace early on with a goal just three minutes after the starting whistle as Emily Thill set Megan Howard up for the Warhawks one and only goal of the match. The Warhawks would attempt six more shots in the first half to no avail.

Freshman Adriana Ruffolo (Bloomingdale, Ill.-Glenbard North) made her goalkeeping debut in tonight's contest, recording four saves in the opening half.

Despite finding only one shot opportunity in the first 45 minutes, the Titans would flip the script in the second half, taking nine shots to the Warhawks' four. With time running down, junior Sammie Shanks (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) would turn a long pass into a footrace to the right side of the box before launching the ball far left, narrowly missing the Warhawk keeper's hands to net the tying goal in the 89th minute of regulation.

Illinois Wesleyan moves to a 1-11-2 (0-4-1 CCIW) record on the season while UW-Whitewater is now 5-5-3 (1-1-1 WIAC).

The Titans are back at home Saturday, Oct. 14 as they host North Park University for Senior Day. Senior Day festivities will begin 10 minutes ahead of the 1 p.m. kickoff at Neis Field. The IWU men's game will follow at 3:30 p.m.
