Fogarty & Wagner Lead Men’s Swimming in Dual with Wabash

Titans earn six first-place finishes

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's swimming team completed its home dual against Wabash College Friday, Jan. 13. Out of 14 events, not including the diving portion, the Titans earned six first-place finishes compared to the Little Giants' five, however, fell by a final tally of 142-78.

Freshman Sam Fogarty (Pontiac, Ill. - Pontiac Township) led the Green and White with two first-place finishes in the 50 and 500 yard freestyle events. Fogarty touched in a final time of 22.49 in the 50 free before recording a career-best, 5:06.58 in the 500 free.

Also leading the Titans was junior Lane Wagner (Danville, Ill. - Danville) with two victories of his own. Wagner secured first place in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:03.80 as the only IWU swimmer in the event. The Danville, Ill. native also touched in a season-best 55.99 in the 100 yard backstroke.

Junior Henry Moore (Champaign, Ill. - Centennial) secured first-place in the 1000 yard freestyle touching in a season-best time of 10:29.09, as the Champaign, Ill. native was the solo representative for the Green and White in the event. Moore's time was about 14 seconds faster than the runner-up.

IWU also earned a first-place time in the 100 yard butterfly credited to junior Ethan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill. - Normal Community). Lowder recorded a time of 55.71, 3.81 seconds faster than second place.

In the exhibition time trials for the women, junior Bella Calcagno (Lemont, Ill. - Lemont Township) dominated in the 200 yard freestyle as she swam a personal-best, 2:01.62.

The Titans face a quick turnaround as both the men's and women's teams travel for a dual meet against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology tomorrow Saturday, Jan. 14 at 1 p.m. EST.
