BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team will host the first of three home tournaments in the 2022 season Friday-Saturday, September 9-10. IWU (2-2) opens the tournament Friday, Sept. 9, at 7:30 p.m. against Concordia University-Wisconsin, marking the first home game for the Titans. On Saturday the Titans will play twice, Greenville College at 10:30 a.m. and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at 1:30 p.m.
The Green and White enter the weekend following a three-set loss to the University of Chicago Tuesday night. CUW enters the Shirk Center with a 2-1 record, most recently falling in straight sets to No. 3 Calvin University. Greenville comes in with a 2-2 record, coming off a win in straight sets against Concordia University-Moorhead. RHIT enters the tournament following a win against Widener University in three sets, moving their record to 3-1.
As a team, IWU has accumulated 132 kills and 118 assists in 14 sets. Freshman Taylor French (Romeoville, Ill.-Plainfield East) is leading the pack with 32 kills in her first season donning the Green and White. She also leads the team with 11 aces, averaging 0.79 per set. Freshman
Katie Gund (Pewaukee, Wis.-Pewaukee) leads the team in assists with 58.
On the defensive side, junior Faith Washko (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart-Griffin), a Second Team All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin selection in 2021, has accumulated a team leading 53 digs. Junior
Courtney Heffren (Eureka, Ill.-Eureka) is second with 44. Heffren is also second in kills with 23, showing her ability to handle both sides of the game well. Junior
Taylor Babec (Joliet, Ill.-Plainfield Central) has been credited with a team-leading eight blocks, five of them being solos.
