Scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff

9/30/2022 2:00:00 PM

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After earning a draw in the team's last action, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team will play its second College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match against Wheaton College. The contest is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 1 at Neis Field and will serve as the second leg of a double dip with the IWU women's soccer team's 1 p.m. contest. Entering the CCIW dual, the Green and White owns a 3-4-2 (0-1 CCIW) record, while the Thunder will open its conference slate with a 3-3-2 clip.

Saturday's meeting will mark the 36th all-time matchup between these two foes in a series that dates back to the 1988 season. The Thunder own an overall record of 30-5 in the all-time series in large part of an 18-match winning streak from Oct. 31, 1988 to Oct. 15, 2004. However, the Green and White claimed the most recent victory by taking down Wheaton in overtime, 3-2, on Oct. 9 of last year on a senior Dane Hoare (Chicago, Ill.-Von Steuben) golden goal.

The Titans last took on Wabash, for a non-conference meeting, Tuesday, Sept. 27 at Neis Field. After the Little Giants took an early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute, IWU notched the equalizer in the 35th minute. Neither team could produce the go-ahead goal as the match ended in a 1-1 draw. This tie ended IWU's three-game losing streak and ended Wabash's four-game winning streak.

Wheaton enters the match more rested, as the Thunder's last competition was on Saturday, Sept. 24. WC played host to the Bears of WashU in the team's non-conference finale. After both sides produced one goal in the first 45, the Thunder welcomed two second half goals to defeat the Bears by a final tally of 3-1.

In the CCIW rankings, Illinois Wesleyan checks in at seventh with 99 total shots for the year. North Park sits atop of this list as the Vikings have accumulated 152 shots. On the year, IWU has net 15 goals, which is good for a tie for fifth in the conference standings.

Individually for the Titans, juniors Gavin Smith (Seattle, Wash.-Eastside Preparatory School) and Sasha Tylnyy (Wheeling, Ill.-Buffalo Grove) lead the Green and White with six points apiece. Smith has tallied a pair of goals and a pair of assists, while Tylnyy has accumulated three goals. Sophomore Justin Hart (Morton, Ill.-Morton), freshman Kalabi Kamau (Alpharetta, Ga.-Marist School), junior CJ Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, Calif.-Dos Pueblos), and junior Brody Seaton (Dunlap, Ill.-Peoria Notre Dame) each have notched four points on the year.

Sophomore Spencer Fulton (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) has logged the most minutes between the posts for the Green and White (434:31), and has accumulated a 2-3-1 record for the season. Freshman Sam Kedzior (Cary, Ill.-Cary Grove) has earned back-to-back starts in goal, amassing a 0-1-1 mark.
