Women’s Soccer Readies for Home Meeting with Millikin

Game is schedule for a 7 p.m. kickoff

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's soccer team prepares for its second College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin clash Wednesday, Sept. 28 against Millikin University. The game is set for 7 p.m., under the lights, at Neis Field. The Titans hold an overall record of 3-1-2, 1-0 in the CCIW as the Big Blue head to Bloomington with a 2-3-2 standing and find themselves 0-1 in the conference.

The Titans return to action after opening CCIW play Saturday, Sept. 24, when IWU blanked Carthage, 4-0. Fifth-year senior and co-captain of the 2022 squad, Caelyn Steffens (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) notched three goals, which marked her fourth-career hat trick. After her three goals, Steffens has accumulated a total of 56 goals in her collegiate career (26 at Wis-Platteville and 30 at IWU).

On the flip side and in between the posts for the Green and White, Kayla Borg (McHenry, Ill.-Cary Grove) has a total of four solo-shutouts in her career in the Titan uniform. After a 0-0 draw against Albion College, Tuesday, Sept. 20, Borg then assisted the Titans to a CCIW opener victory over Carthage 4-0. The McHenry, Ill. native's scoreless week awarded her CCIW Defensive Player of the Week honors, the second in her career.

While the Titans saw success in its CCIW lid lifter, Millikin was upended by Carroll, 5-0, Sept. 24. IWU and Millikin have a long-standing history that dates back to 1996, but it is the Titans who hold a 26-1 all-time series advantage. On a 15-game win streak against the Big Blue, IWU has scored two-or-more goals in a single game in every encounter with Millikin with the exception of two. The two occurrences still resulted in a IWU win but with scores of 1-0.

The largest margin of victory the Green and White have recorded over MU was a 13-0 decision back in 1997. More recently, the two squads played last season, Oct. 27 where the Titans went on to claim a 3-1 win.
