Women’s Volleyball Travels to Kenosha for Key CCIW Clash

First serve set for 7 p.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team will travel up north to take on Carthage College in a conference match Sept. 21. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Tarble Arena. 

The Titans (7-2, 1-0 CCIW) are riding a five-game win streak entering Wednesday after most recently defeating Aurora University in four sets (20-25, 27-25, 25-23, 25-23). Carthage (9-2, 1-0 CCIW) is riding a four-game win streak after taking down North Park University in four sets on Saturday, Sept. 17 with scores of 25-21, 27-25, 20-25, and 25-19. 

This will mark the 51st time the two teams have faced off, with Carthage holding a 29-21 advantage. Illinois Wesleyan has swept the Firebirds the last two matches, most recently on Nov. 6, 2021 to win the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament Championship. The win advanced the Green and White to the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Tournament for the first time since 2018. 

Freshman Taylor French (Romeoville, Ill.-Plainfield East) leads the Titans in kills with 113, averaging a team-best 3.32 kills per set. French also has a team-leading 30 service aces, averaging 0.59 aces per set. Sophomore Abby Erdman (Aurora, Ill.-Metea Valley) and freshman Katie Gund (Pewaukee, Wis.-Pewaukee) have been the masterminds behind most of the IWU offense with 169 and 154 assists, respectively. 

Defensively, junior Faith Washko (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart-Griffin) has posted 188 digs in her strong start to the season, averaging a conference-best 5.53 digs per set. Senior Evy Makris (Orland Park, Ill.-Sandburg) and junior Taylor Babec (Joliet, Ill.-Plainfield Central) have been forces to be reckoned with at the net, rejecting 30 and 27 attacks, respectively.
