Match scheduled for 7 p.m.

9/19/2022 1:30:00 PM

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After seeing its three-game winning streak snapped this past weekend, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's soccer team will look to start a new winning streak against Washington University in St. Louis, Tuesday, Sept. 20 with a 7 p.m. start, in St, Louis. Entering the match, the Green and White own a 3-2-1 record, while the Bears sit at 1-2.

This match will mark the 20th all-time between the two Midwest programs. Illinois Wesleyan is yet to tally a victory as the Bears own an all-time record of 17-0-2 against the Titans. WashU is currently on an eight-match win streak that dates back to Oct. 19, 2011. The two teams last battled Sept. 1 of last year that saw a 3-0 Bears victory.

IWU last took to the pitch Saturday, Sept. 17 against Loras College, who is currently receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 poll. The Duhawks scored an early goal in the 11th minute and that would be all Loras needed to top the Titans as the match ended with a final score of 1-0. This defeat ended the Green and White's three-match winning streak.

On the flip side, the Bears last played Wednesday, Sept. 14 against No. 6, and College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin rival, North Park University. The Vikings scored two first-half goals to generate a 2-0 cushion en route to a 3-0 victory.

Thus far this season, the Green and White's offensive attack has been spearheaded by juniors Gavin Smith (Seattle, Wash.-Eastside Preparatory School) and Sasha Tylnyy (Wheeling, Ill.-Buffalo Grove) as each have tallied six points. Tylnyy tops the team with his three goals and six shots on goal. Smith, sophomore Justin Hart (Morton, Ill.-Morton), and junior Brody Seaton (Dunlap, Ill.-Peoria Notre Dame) have each notched a pair of goals in the teams six games.

Smith's 2.40 shots per game clip puts him in fifth place in the CCIW, while Tylnyy's three goals is good for seventh-best in the conference.

Illinois Wesleyan has used several different lineups this season as only four Titans have started every match - Tylnyy, Hart, Seaton, and freshman Kalabi Kamau (Alpharetta, Ga.-Marist School)

Sophomores Spencer Fulton (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) and Scott Abramson (Odessa, Fla.-Sickles) have earned victories between the posts for IWU. Fulton has tallied two, while Abramson has notched the other victory.
